Dance for all ages and abilities

Founded by Margot Greenlee in 2012 and now led by Artistic Director Kelly King, BodyWise Dance is a collective of professional dancers, actors, and educators dedicated to making the joy of movement accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Through classes, workshops, and creative laboratories in healthcare, education, and corporate settings, we create experiences that leave participants feeling happier, stronger, and more inspired—ready to return to life and work with renewed energy.

At BodyWise, dance is more than a movement activity. It is a tool for learning social skills and fostering independence. It builds meaningful bonds within communities, opens dialogue around complex social issues, and grounds us in our bodies. Through dance, we cultivate mindfulness, self-awareness, and a deeper sense of peace and belonging in our own skin.

Our clients include hospitals, schools, senior centers, shelters, cultural institutions, and corporate organizations. We partner with caregivers, educators, therapists, and community leaders who share our belief that movement can unlock creativity, well-being, and connection for everyone. Current partners: Joe's Movement Emporium, Creative Suitland, and Story Tapestries.

Services

All of our activities are beginner-friendly, highly enjoyable, and thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of each client.

Workshops

For over a decade, we’ve partnered with service organizations to co-create dance spaces with neurodivergent individuals. Participants build confidence, practice social skills like eye contact, partner support, and group responsibility, and gain physical benefits such as coordination, focus, and muscle tone.

Perforum

BodyWise Dance develops perforum format that use movement as a catalyst for civic dialogue. By weaving together stories, movement, and audience participation, these performances create space for communities to reflect, question, and converse about complex issues in society. Dance becomes a shared language that helps people connect across differences and explore new perspectives together.

Student Performances

We collaborate with schools to co-create performances for and with students. These projects introduce young people to dance as both an art form and a tool for self-discovery. Students actively participate in the creative process—developing choreography, performing, and engaging in reflective dialogue.

Video Tutorials

For the past five years, BodyWise Dance has created video tutorials featuring warm-ups and improvisation practices that bring movement into everyday learning. Developed through international collaborations, these videos provide accessible, creative tools that can be used directly in classrooms or community programs or indvidually.

Our Team.

Our educators are not only skilled teachers—they are practicing artists active in Washington, DC’s creative scene. For them, art is a native language, and they invite participants into the creative process with the authenticity, curiosity, and imagination of working artists.
